BLACKPOOL STANDARD BEARERS
(This page is still under construction. We would welcome any input from ex-servicemen or women who have information about the history of Standard Bearers in Blackpool. Please contact here.)
NORMAN "PANCHO" PEARSON R.N. Retired.
For years, far too many to accurately remember, Norman has been involved with the Ex-Military on the Fylde Coast.
As Parade Marshall, he gave his time selflessly. Overseeing parades, not only at the Cenotaph, but at other venues including The Tower, Winter Gardens, The Grand Theater and the Marine Hall at Fleetwood. Norman would be there, taking charge with what appeared to be effortless ease. Also, when bereaved families of Ex-Military personnel requested, Norman would muster his Standard Bearers to pay tribute at their funerals.
But……….. time catches up with most of us, and Norman decided to just concentrate on funerals (less marching and ‘Eyes Left’).
This February, after 1006 funerals had been respectfully conducted, Norman decided to hang up his Swagger Stick and retire.
So, February 25th 2012, Liz Clayton and Paul Binns arranged for a ‘Surprise Party’ at the Guards Club to pay the respects of the F.E.S.L.C. and the Standard Bearers and various other people and organizations to mark the retirement of a man who epitomized standards of Military Respect and Dignity.
Don’t think he’s disappeared tho’. He is still a member of the Guards Club and an Associate Member of the Blackpool & Fylde Submariners Association.
“Up Spirits” Norman.
